New Mexico should ban the sale of semi-automatic rifles defined as assault weapons.
New Mexico does not ban any category of semi-automatic rifle, though it has a waiting period and background checks for most gun sales. Bills to ban sales of these rifles have been introduced in the Legislature but have not passed.

I oppose any ban on any firearms. Law-abiding New Mexicans have a constitutional right to own firearms, and I will defend that right as Governor.
