Federal law requires background checks for sales by licensed dealers but not for most sales between private individuals. This would extend the requirement to private sales.

Background checks save lives. Washington needs to follow Colorado's lead and keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. Universal background checks, while not the sole solution, will be a big step forward.
